These fun activities will be the highlight of your reception!
Truth is, your wedding is a party. It’s probably the largest, most important party you and your groom have ever hosted, but the entertaining essentials are still the same. For as long as we can remember, good food, good music and good people always almost guarantee a good time.
Offering wedding games to play can keep guests entertained while you and your wedding party are off being photographed, making the meet-and-greet rounds, or changing outfits from ceremony pretty to party perfect. Adding a little action to your reception, whether it be for kids or adults, is never a bad idea. Plus, wedding games are a natural way to encourage interaction and include your guests in your big day.
Still, it helps to have a few tricks up your sleeve. Enter these exciting wedding game ideas.
I-SPY WEDDING LIST
Probably the most popular table game in wedding receptions is the “I-Spy” wedding list. It’s similar to a scavenger hunt. This wedding game activity instructs guests to use their personal cameras or disposables provided by the couple to seek, find and snap pics of different moments from their memorable day. Below are pictures to include on the guests’ I Spy Wedding Game hunt:
- favourite decoration (how creative!)
- artistic shot of couple
- a couple holding hands
- a smiling bridesmaid
- a dance move
- a group photo
- the bride laughing
- a new friend I met at the wedding
- your best selfie
- the groom and his buddies
- the bride looking at her groom
DIY Tip: Print up a card or download a ready to print “I-spy” game. Place at each guest’s seat with instructions. If you want your wedding photos shared on social media, include a hashtag so you can see all the fun from your wedding games.
STAND UP, SIT DOWN / TRIVIA GAME
All that sitting during the reception can be hard on the guests’ tushie. Get them on their feet with a trivia game that instructs people to stand or sit in response to questions about the bride and groom. Just how well does your guest know you and your partner? Let one lucky guest from each table make a play to take home a prize. Create a list of trivia questions about the bride and groom for guests to answer. The person at each table with the most correct answers wins. Here are some sample questions:
- What’s the bride’s middle name?
- What’s the groom’s favourite sport to play?
- Who is older?
- Who farts a lot?
- Who eats the most?
- When is the bride’s birthday?
- Who is addicted to chocolate?
- Who sings better?
- Who is addicted to chocolate?
- Who likes to take pictures?
Encourage mingling among your guests! In this game, your guests don’t just sit and mark off a card as numbers are called. Instead, they have to take their card around to the other guests to find someone in the room who can claim “That’s Me!” given the clue provided, and then making it official by writing in their initials. Here are some ideas for Wedding Bingo:
- Birth Month
- Instruments played
- Food Favourites
- Pet Peeves
MARRIAGE ADVICE CARDS
DIY Tip: When creating the cards, try to avoid being too generic with descriptions and think about unique clues to describe your guests.
While waiting for the food, let your guests write their wedding advice for the couple’s journey ahead. Include a place for guests to both write and place their advice cards, and later turn these into a unique guest book.
BALLOON POP WALL
A balloon wall pop welcomes guests to seek messages and prizes inside a wall of balloons just waiting to be popped! On a large cork board, attach a decorative collection of balloons. Instruct each guest to use a safety pin to pop one balloon each. Every balloon includes a secret message, instruction or a prize! It’s fun and entertaining!
BEST PHOTO BOOTH CONTEST
Add a touch of competition to the photo booth! Encourage your guests to bring out their wild side – but only in the photo booth that is! Encourage them to be as wacky as possible while posing and at the end of the night, you and your partner must choose the silliest or your most favourite photo from the evening.
